People are work.
Whatever organisation you work for - or own - you are at its simplest, running an ecosystem of people.
Without people, you have no business, you have no work.
And people, are fuelled by emotions.
Three emotions are the main drivers of how we behave -
Fear, Love & Hope.
Emotional disharmony is what breaks down the ecosystem.
Maintaining the balance is the most important job of a Leader.
My Why?
Making work, a place people love to be.
My work purpose is to enable people throughout the entire organisation to be key-holders; able to capably navigate between the most powerful of emotions at play in business - Love and Fear, by creating Hope.
Hope is the ingredient that gives people agency - the ability to visualise a destination and a better future for themself, and the confidence to get move towards it.
I’m inspired by the Theory of Hope - first authored by Professor Charles Snyder from University of Kansas, and a pioneer in the Psychology of Hope in the 1980s. Snyder developed theories explaining how people react to personal feedback, to the human need for uniqueness, and to the drive to excuse and forgive transgressions. His theory of hope emphasizes goal-directed thinking, where a person uses both ‘pathways thinking’ (the perceived capacity to find routes to their desired goals) and ‘agency thinking’ (the necessary motivation to enable those routes).
My hope, is that in times of increasing uncertainty Leaders will lead with Emotion, re-defining Emotional Intelligence into a leadership style; leading with heart, humility and with the courage to care about people first - as the primary drivers of profit.
Emotional Leadership will make more people feel safe, connected and thriving at work and also build a more productive, resilient, innovative business, and brand — that people will love to buy from, and work for.
